University looks into car safety after car hacking test surfaces

Wired magazine recently demonstrated that the growing connectivity of vehicles and smartphones have left motor vehicles and drivers vulnerable to malicious software and the potential to lose total control of all vehicle functions.

Byrav Ramamurthy, a professor of computer science and engineering, said this won’t affect all vehicles.

“This type of exploit only affects a small portion of cars on the road,” Ramamurthy said. “But, it’s a growing and emerging area of concern and something that needs to be watched.”
