What I did this summer: CAS students share their stories

As fall semester approaches and we welcome new and returning students to campus, Nebraska Today is highlighting some of their summer activities.

  • Chelsea Akyeampong, global studies and political science, (pictured above) assisted Dr. Jeannette Jones with her research project "To Enter Africa from America: U.S. Empire, Race and the African Question 1847-1919". She is one of 67 CAS students in the Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experience (UCARE) program.
  • Leah Engquist, biochemistry, performed research on the glycine receptor as part of the Pain Undergraduate Research Experience. The project is funded by the National Institutes of Health National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Strokes at Duquesne University in Pittsburg.
  • Matthew Meacham, computer science and mathematics, served as a software engineering intern at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. He served on the Azure data factory team.
  • Soham Patel, computer science, worked with Nebraska 4-H in the STEMentors program, an electronic learning service that offers educational experiences to afterschool and summer camp programs.
  • Anna Singharath, global studies, studied abroad in Morocco. Study areas included French, Islamic society and peace, and conflict resolution.

  • Nick Siscoe, computer science, worked as a software engineering at Hudl. The work included improving software that 98 percent of high school coaches use to manage game film.
  • Jared Yost, computer science, worked as an intern at Garmin in Kansas City, developing software for the Forerunner, a running watch.
