The College of Arts and Sciences is excited to expand the recognition of academic achievement to include students who completed 6-11 hours of coursework during a semester. The inaugural Dean's Commendation List showcases 50 students who earned a 3.7 or higher GPA for Fall 2022.

Director of Academic Advising, Tony Lazarowicz, presented the idea to Dean Mark E. Button who enthusicatically approved the additional way to celebrate student success.

"I'm extremely excited that Dean Button has approved the implementation of Dean's Commendation List," Lazarowicz said. "Many students pursing higher education today are balancing multiple responsibilities, such as children, full-time employment, and school. As such, pursuing a degree full-time is often not possible. Prior to this year, those students did not have a mechanism for being recognized for their academic excellence."

The new list is a great step in recognizing an important group of students in the college who are also achieving academic excellence in the classroom, complementing the biannual Dean's List for students who complete 12 hours of coursework.

"This reminds them that they belong here and contribute to the academic experience of all students at Nebraska," said Lazarowicz.
