Why you chose your major

I pick my major because I want in international human rights and what better way to do that then to study political science and global studies together. Plus I get to focus on a region and a language which has shaped my entire college experience.

Favorite course

My favorite course so far was International Human Rights or POLS 470 which I took with Ari Kohen who is one of my favorite professors. He incorporated theory from all decades while also looking at today's international human rights environment. Plus he is one of the best professors, if you haven't taken a class with him, I would highly recommend doing so!

Research or internship experience

My favorite internship I have had so far was working at a non profit in Amman, Jordan for a summer called Sisterhood Is Global Institute. Mostly, we focused on women's rights and refugee's rights in Jordan, and if you know anything about Jordan you know what a huge task this was. I got to see political and social aspects of Jordan from a more personal and in-depth view than I ever could have from a classroom or a book. I got to work first hand with all types of people from refugees to lawyers.

Other involvement

I am the president and founder of UNL's Amnesty International club, and president of the national honor society for political science, Pi Sigma Alpha. I am a senior counselor for Nebraska Human Resources Institute (NHRI) and I am a strengths coach through the College of Business. I am a member of the Intelligence Community Scholars program and the Great Plains National Security Education Community (GPNSEC) club. I also am in Chi Omega and a member of Young Democrats and the Pre-Law Club. I volunteer both with UNL doing various activities from Dance Marathon to The Big Event and outside of UNL with several non profits such as Luther Family Services where I work with refugees to Lincoln Literacy.

Why you chose Nebraska

I chose UNL because I knew here I could work closely with faculty and staff members are truly get one-on-one mentorship which has defined my time at the university. I loved the environment here and the opportunities UNL has to offer.
