Why you chose your major

I chose my major because I have always been interested in science and I thought Biology would give me the most well rounded experience. I also wanted a major that would be beneficial to me in my graduate education. Biology has opened many doors to me and given me opportunities that I would not have in another major or field.

Favorite course

My favorite course so far in college would have to be Human Anatomy or Bios 214. Its hard to explain but every time I stepped into Anatomy Lab I felt an instant rush of excitement and adrenaline. I was so interested in what I was learning and I was extremely eager to do well in the lab environment. The professor and TAs for Human Anatomy were all extremely knowledgeable on the subject and gave students an extremely thorough understanding of the subject. The fact that UNL has a cadaver lab gave me a huge advantage when applying to graduate schools. I miss that course almost every day and I wish I could be back in the lab mastering human anatomy.

Other involvement

I am the Head Teaching Assistant for Bios 205 or Genetics Lab. I organize, coordinate and maintain the lab each semester. I am extremely grateful and humbled that I was given this opportunity. I am also involved in Greek life on campus. I am a member of Alpha Omicron Pi.

Why you chose Nebraska

I chose UNL for many reasons. One reason is that both of my parents are from Nebraska. I grew up going to Husker games and visiting my grandparents in the surrounding cities so Lincoln already felt like home. Another reason is that I wanted to branch our from my high school friends and find independence. Going out of state for my college education has been the best decision I have made, and I have never regretted it. The campus feels like home, and it is an environment that I have thrived in.
