Why you chose your major
Originally, I came to Nebraska as a Chemistry Major. After 3 semesters, I realized Chemistry wasn't something I was passionate about, and that I wanted to study something else. I started doing research on different degrees and potential career pathways, while keeping in mind I wanted to study something I was passionate about. When I discovered Economics, I found that as a social science it encompasses several things I am passionate about, including decision-making, politics, and psychology. It is also a very practical degree, while allowing me to study other areas that I am passionate about, namely the Minors that I am pursuing.
Favorite course
My favorite course so far in college was my Science in History class. It was so interesting to me because it provided a lot of context to the things I was studying in my science classes, as well as to some of the political history I had known coming into the class. Additionally, this class helped me realize I wanted to study History more than I had been, and due to this class I decided to add History as a Minor I am pursuing.
Research, education abroad, or internship experience
This past summer I worked as a Conference Assistant for the University, meaning I worked with all the camps and clinics that stay on campus for the summer. I worked in a team to ensure all guests received great service, as well as ensure that all University policy was followed to ensure safety and security, all while being a representative of Nebraska.
Other involvement
I am involved in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, which is a men's music fraternity with the goal of advancing music in America. We work together weekly to build brotherhood, develop service projects, and put on concerts for the public. I am the treasurer of the fraternity, which means I manage all accounts, keep track of receipts and payment, as well as make important decisions. I help make goals for the fraternity, decide how to solve issues, and how we can improve ourselves.
Why you chose Nebraska
I chose Nebraska for several reasons. It is a strong, Big 10 school, it was a medium distance from home, a lot of my family went there, and when I came and visited, it immediately felt like home to me. I had visited some other schools, but Nebraska stood out as a great size, environment, and learning opportunity.
Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students who talk to prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public about the college.
